A group of five enthusiastic cyclists, including former Wakefield Trinity Wildcats and Great Britain back row forward Gary Price, are once again raising money for the RFL Benevolent Fund.
Their challenge is to complete a coast to coast cycle ride from Blackpool to Scarborough, within the day, on July 18th this year.
Departing from Blackpool Tower at 5:30 am their route takes in Clitheroe, Skipton, Harrogate, York, Malton and Pickering before eventually arriving at the famous Spa on Scarborough’s seafront in the early evening.
The five participants are Andy Blakeley, Gary Price, Jacques Banting, Ian Boyes and John Auty, who have been training for over three months for the event and recently completed a gruelling 100 mile practice ride in preparation for this challenge.
This challenge follows on from their inclusion in the Wakefield triathlon last year where they raised over £1000 for three separate rugby charities.
On this occasion all monies raised will be donated directly to the RFL Benevolent Fund.
Gary Price said:
“If a player is fortunate enough to retire from his playing career without a serious injury and subsequent assistance from the benevolent fund there is every chance he knows someone who has.
This is why we all feel so strongly about the work of this charity and are looking forward to generating a very healthy donation to add to the fund.”
