Sadly, former BARLA international Dave O’Connor passed away at St James’s hospital on Tuesday July 17th. Dave had been suffering from pneumonia and had developed a bowel infection. He died peacefully.
Dave had previously been named BARLA amateur rugby league player of the year for three years. He was a model player having never been sent off or cautioned. He was regarded by many as the best player never to have turned professional. The former Yew Tree Leeds amateur player had a serious rugby league injury in 1984 playing an international match for BARLA in France. Despite this career changing injury, Dave always remained positive and had a long lasting sense of humour.
He leaves behind a loving wife and family and the details of his funeral will be announced via the RFL Benevolent Fund website in due course.
